THERAPY FOR WOMEN WHO ARE Ready for change

If you've spent years wondering why relationships feel so much harder for you than they seem to for everyone else... you may have landed in the right place.

Perhaps, somewhere along the way, you learned that your needs, feelings or voice mattered less than everyone else's. Maybe you learned to keep the peace. To stay quiet. To be who others needed you to be. Or perhaps you simply stopped trusting yourself.

Whatever your story, you may now find yourself wondering...

  • Why can't I stop worrying about upsetting people?
  • Why do I keep saying yes when I want to say no?
  • And why do I sometimes say no... when I actually wanted to say yes?
  • Why do I notice everyone's mood the second they walk into the room?
  • Why don't I even know what I want anymore?
  • What's happened to me?
  • If people really knew me... would they still think I had it all together?

If these questions feel familiar, you're not alone.

For many of the women I work with, the answers didn't begin in adulthood.

They began much earlier.

Book here to get started

Many of the women I see in my practice,  grew up in homes where they learned to stay alert to other people's moods. They had to. Keeping the peace felt safer than speaking up. Being helpful, responsible or easy to manage became a way of navigating emotionally difficult, chaotic or unpredictable relationships.

These were intelligent responses to the environment you were in.

The challenge is that the patterns that once helped you survive can become the very things that leave you feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected from yourself, or unsure how to live any differently. Especially once you hit 40+ and peri-menopause enters the picture.

Everything I do as a therapist is guided by one question:

How does a woman develop a relationship with herself strong enough to guide the rest of her life?

That is the heart of my work.

Book here

A woman whose relationship with herself is stronger than her fear of disappointing others becomes capable of creating a life that actually belongs to her.

I'm Mel Eden, a trauma-informed counsellor offering outdoor therapy in Maitland, Newcastle, Whitebridge and online.

Together, we'll gently make sense of the experiences that shaped you, not so you stay living in the past, but so you can understand yourself with greater compassion and begin responding to life from choice rather than old survival patterns.

I won't offer quick fixes or tell you to "just think positively."

Instead, I offer a grounded, thoughtful space where we can untangle what's been carried for so long, helping you build a relationship with yourself that feels steady enough to guide whatever comes next.

You might be wondering whether your experiences were 'bad enough' to talk about.

I hear that often.

In fact, many of the women I work with often tell me that "other people had it worse."

They minimise what they've been carrying because someone else's pain always seemed bigger than their own.

But therapy isn't about comparing pain. It's about understanding how your experiences have shaped you, and whether the ways you've learned to cope are still serving the life you want to live.

What to Expect

It can feel a bit vulnerable, the idea of sitting in a park to talk about what’s heavy on your heart. It’s a different rhythm than a sterile office. But for the women I work with, that’s exactly why it works. They often find it’s just... easier to exhale...

"But will people see us?" We don't sit in the middle of busy walking paths. I’ve scouted spots nestled among the trees where we have our own pocket of space. It’s not a soundproof room, but many women actually find the open air feels safer and less "trapped" than four walls. If a wayward wanderer ambles too close, we simply pause. I handle your privacy with a lot of care.

"Do I have to be fit?" Not at all. We usually stay seated for our first 2 or 3 sessions while we get to know each other. After that, if you want to walk, we walk. It’s a gentle, slow stroll, never a power walk. And if you’d rather stay seated for all of your sessions, that’s perfectly okay, too. It's completely up to you.

"What if I don't like the spot?" You are always in charge. If the sun is too bright or the spot doesn't feel right, we move. You never have to say or do anything that doesn't feel okay for you. We go at your pace.

Many of the women I work with feel like they're failing.

Yet from the outside, they're often the ones holding families together, building careers, caring for others and  carrying more than anyone realises.

They're the people others turn to. The dependable one. The capable one.

But carrying so much for so long comes at a cost.

Therapy isn't a sign that you've failed.

It's a place where, perhaps for the first time in a long time, you don't have to carry it all on your own.
